Threaded Inserts and Tools
Threaded inserts are single-piece fasteners with internal or external threads that can be installed from one side of a material. Threaded inserts are perfect when there’s limited access to the back side of a panel or material, like tubing, extrusions, or thin sheet metal. Once they’re installed, the fasteners remain captive, and mating components can be attached to them using standard fasteners.

AVK® Threaded Inserts
As one of the largest suppliers of threaded inserts in North America, Marshall Sales is proud to offer products from the industry leader, AVK®, which offers products made in the USA.
AVK®’s Spinwall Technology™ can be installed into flat, tubular, or materials of other shapes using hand-operated or pneumatic hand-held tools right on the assembly line.
See the diagram below to understand how the “blind” installation process works.
Key Characteristics & Advantages
- Compatible with thin materials: Across the industry, materials are being made thinner to save on weight, fuel, pollution, and raw material cost. Fastening to thin materials can be simple and reliable, especially with AVK® threaded inserts. These inserts can be installed into thinner materials more easily than weld nuts, pierce nuts, clinch nuts, thread-tapping, and thread-forming screws can.
- Blind installation: AVK® threaded inserts can be installed blind, making them ideal for new materials like hydro-formed tubing, aluminum extrusions, and composite panels.
- Neat and clean: AVK® threaded inserts are convenient replacements for welding and weld fasteners.
- Not only does this help reduce health and clean air concerns, but AVK® threaded inserts save money, since they don’t require equipment vacuuming or air scrubbing.
- Weld fasteners burn away pre-applied galvanized finishes, which requires rework to prevent corrosion.
- Pre-painted materials aren’t suitable for weld fasteners, since the paint prevents weld nuts from attaching. This means weld fasteners have to be approved before painting. However, pre-painted materials can eliminate painting facility costs and reduce environmental impacts.
- AVK® threaded inserts eliminate the need for thread masking, since they can be installed after a product is painted.
- Options for plastics and composites: Plastics and composites are becoming more popular due to their molding abilities, resistance to corrosion, coloring, and strength-to-weight ratios. AVK® threaded inserts include specific products intended for use with blow, rotational compression, vacuum, scrimp, honeycomb, and processed plastic and composites.

A-L Series
A-L series inserts are the most versatile option, featuring knurled bodies and large diameters. The low-profile heads make them ideal for use in punched or drilled holes. These inserts offer the highest all-around strength and have been designed to be used with Grade 5 or Metric 8.8/9.8 mating screws.
A-K Series
A-K Series inserts feature knurled bodies and reduced-profile heads to allow for virtually flush installations. The unique design eliminates the need for countersink drilling or dimpling of the parent material. This series is designed to be used with Grade 5 or Metric Class 8.8/9.8 mating screws.
A-H Series
The A-H series inserts include radius corner hex bodies. When installed into a corresponding hex hole, the radius corners of these inserts expand to fill the hole corners. This makes them resistant to spinning within the panels they’re seated in. The A-H series is designed to be used with Grade 5 or Metric Class 8.8/9.8 mating screws.
Other Threaded Inserts
In addition to our AVK® products, Marshall Sales also offers threaded inserts from Atlas® and Sherex®. You can find more information about these products at the links below.
