Mechanical Anchors
Mechanical anchors are designed for a range of base materials, such as concrete, brick, and block. We provide these options through our partnership with Simpson Strong-Tie®, a leader in structural systems for over sixty years.
Find some of the most commonly used anchors below.
Wedge Anchors
Code listed for cracked and uncracked concrete and masonry applications, the Strong-Bolt 2 wedge-type expansion anchor is an optimal choice for high-performance, even in seismic and high-wind conditions. Dual undercutting embossments on each clip segment enable secondary expansion should a crack form and intersect the anchor location. This feature significantly increases the ability of Strong-Bolt 2 to carry load if the hole expands.
These anchors are ideal for:
- Cracked concrete
- Uncracked concrete
- Cracked masonry
- Uncracked masonry
Key Characteristics & Advantages
- Prevent mushrooming: The chamfered top of these anchors is designed to prevent mushrooming during installation.
- Handle static and seismic loads: Qualified for static and seismic loading conditions, seismic design categories A through F.
- Versatility: These anchors are suitable for horizontal, vertical, and overhead applications.
- Concrete options: Strong-Bolt 2 anchors are qualified for minimum concrete thicknesses of 3 1/4" and lightweight concrete-over-steel deck thicknesses of 2 1/2" and 3 1/4".
Heavy-Duty Screw Anchors
Titen HD® screw anchors offer low installation torque and outstanding performance. They’re designed for a wide variety of applications, like sill plates, ledgers, post bases, seating, and other hold-down applications. These screw anchors are easy to remove when fixtures need to be relocated or when used in temporary applications like bracing and framework.
These anchors are ideal for:
- Cracked concrete
- Uncracked concrete
- Uncracked masonry
Key Characteristics & Advantages
- Tested quality: These anchors are tested in accordance with ACI 355.2, AC193, and AC106.
- Handle static and seismic loads: Titen HD® screw anchors are qualified for static, wind, and seismic loading conditions.
- Efficient load transfer: Thread design undercuts to efficiently transfer the load to the base material.
- Many sizes: These anchors come in standard fractional sizes.
Drop-In Anchors
Simpson Strong-Tie® offers a redesigned Drop-In anchor (DIAB) that makes it easier to install into base materials. The updated geometry in the preassembled expansion plug improves setting capabilities, so the anchors install with 40% fewer hammer strikes than previous versions did. These displacement-controlled expansion anchors are easy to set by driving the plug towards the bottom of the anchor with either hand or power-setting tools. DIAB anchors feature positive-set marking indicators at the top of the anchors, which make it easier to tell when they’ve been properly installed.
These anchors are ideal for:
- Uncracked concrete
- Concrete on metal deck
Key Characteristics & Advantages
- Visual indicator: The positive-set marking system indicates when the anchors have been set properly.
- Flush installation capabilities: The DIAB lipped drop-in version is available for applications that require flush installation.
- Tool options: DIAB offers hand and power-setting tools for fast, easy, and economical installation.
- Easy drilling: The fixed-depth stop bit ensures you drill to the correct depth every time.
Screw Anchors
Titen Turbo™ screw anchors feature a serrated leading edge, pointed tip, and innovative Torque Reduction Channel that traps drilling dust where it can’t get in the way of thread action. This significantly cuts down on binding, stripping, and snapping without compromising the anchors’ strength. It also allows more space for dust to help prevent anchors from bottoming out in smaller-diameter screw holes.
The patented reverse thread design makes driving smooth and requires less torque while providing superior holding power.
These anchors are ideal for:
- Concrete
- Hollow concrete block
- Solid brick
- Hollow brick
Key Characteristics & Advantages
- Removes dust: The patented Torque Reduction Channel displaces dust so it can’t obstruct thread action. This cuts down on the likelihood of the dust binding to the hole.
- Color options: These screw anchors are available in blue, bronze, black, silver, and white.
- Profile options: Titen Turbo™ screws are available with either hex heads or for flush profiles, 6-lobe-drive countersunk flat heads, or trim heads.
- Easy installation: The 6-lobe drive creates positive bit engagement, which makes for easy installations and long bit life.
